Looking to step up your Instagram video game?  You came to the right place.  Posting videos to Instagram has become more and more important for brands and individuals wanting to show off what they’re selling, so it’s important to know how to take that beautiful content you’ve created and make it shine on one of the world’s best social platforms.  My husband and I run filmmaking and photography businesses and we’ve done the dirty work of trying to figure out what works best for Instagram.

I use Adobe Premiere Pro and Media Encoder to adjust all our videos for Instagram.  If you don’t currently use either program, you can sign up for a free trial here: http://www.adobe.com/products/premiere.html.  When exporting your clip, follow these guidelines:

Width: 1,920
Height: 1,080 (note: height and width can be changed if you prefer a different aspect ratio, these are just the maximum pixels allowed for a landscape orientation–use 1,080 by 1,080 for square orientation)
Frame Rate: 23.976
Field Order: Progressive
Aspect: Square Pixels (1.0)

Bitrate Encoding: VBR, 2 pass
Target Bitrate [Mbps]: 10
Maximum Bitrate [Mbps]: 35

All other settings can be left alone.  If exporting audio, I usually use AAC, but use whatever works best for you!  Here’s a quick screen grab so you can see my settings within Premiere Pro.

To save this preset, hit the save preset button (first icon to the right of the preset dialog box) and you’ll be good to go for future videos.  This also helps me when I have multiple videos I would like to encode because I can just drop them into Media Encoder, choose my saved preset, and let it do it’s thing!

I hope this helps!  Be sure to follow us on Instagram for all sorts of crazy content and links to more helpful tutorials!
